This month, SK Cabancalan is launching “Giya,” a 12-week mentorship program connecting out-of-school youth aged 15 to 22 with professional mentors from within the barangay. The goal is simple — to give young people a trusted adult outside their immediate family who can help them think about next steps.
Mentors include teachers, small business owners, health workers, and community leaders. Each mentor commits to one hour per week with their mentee, plus a monthly group session at the Barangay Hall.
Interested youth and potential mentors can sign up at the SK office during office hours, or message the SK Cabancalan Facebook page. Applications close on April 26.
Funding for Giya comes from the SK Youth Development Fund, in line with the Sangguniang Barangay's resolution supporting the Mandaue City Youth Development Plan.
